Matthias was active over fifty years ago and already old then, yet now his name is connected to whatever is moving beneath St. Ardent. As the coterie shares what they know, a dangerous theory begins to form. The hunters are not just capturing spirits, they are experimenting on them, reshaping them, trying to recreate something more powerful.
With multiple paths before them, the coterie weighs their options. The Nosferatu offer to search SchreckNet, while Odette opens the Tremere library with a warning that without proper understanding, they risk mishandling something far beyond them. In the end, they choose to start with the dead, leaving Odette to gather what she can from the archives.
At Greenwood Cemetery, Nicholas calls forth the spirit bound to the wooden horse. What answers is unstable, shifting between forms, a small figure layered over something older. Through broken responses, the truth emerges. The spirit was killed by Matthias. Not just a victim, but his sister, forced into this state, reshaped, and left in fear that he will find her again.
A second spirit is summoned, a Watcher. Unlike the first, it is deeply damaged and barely responsive, fixated on Ernest and offering little beyond fragments, a name, and an unsettling presence. The pattern is no longer theory. These spirits are not just bound. They are broken, altered, and used.

After a successful infiltration of the St. Ardent Science Museum, the coterie returns with stolen fetters, fractured spirits, and the growing certainty that something beneath the city is not just feeding, but learning. What was meant to be a clean extraction begins to unravel as the weight of what they’ve uncovered settles in.
At Greenwood Cemetery, truths surface quickly. Spirits are not merely bound; they are being reshaped. Conditioned. Forced into something else. And whatever is behind it is growing stronger.
But the night takes a more personal turn when Nicholas’s sire, Irina, arrives.
What follows is not a reunion, but a reckoning.
Control, loyalty, and autonomy collide as Irina attempts to pull Nicholas back under her protection, tearing into the coterie and exposing every weakness she can find. The confrontation leaves fractures that cannot easily be repaired, and removes a powerful ally the group may desperately need.
Even Elysium offers no refuge.
At The Velvet Note, the Keeper makes one thing painfully clear: the coterie is being watched, and they are not held in high regard. They are not players in the game, they are pieces, and pieces can be sacrificed.
Still, in the quiet moments that follow, something softer emerges. In the warmth of Nicholas’s home, through shared blood and unexpected kindness, the coterie begins to feel something rare in St. Ardent:
